A person’s personality shows the way he or she thinks, behaves, and treats others.
English has many words to describe different kinds of personalities.

1. Egoist

An egoist is a person who thinks mainly about himself or herself and believes they are very important.

Examples

The egoist always wanted praise from others.

Nobody liked working with him because he was an egoist.

An altruist is a person who cares about others and likes helping people without expecting rewards.

Examples

8. Idealist

An idealist believes strongly in perfect ideas and high moral values.

Idealists often dream of a peaceful world.

9. Narcissist

A narcissist is a person who admires himself or herself excessively.

Examples

The narcissist constantly talked about his achievements.

She avoided the narcissist because he ignored others’ feelings.

10. Philanthropist

A philanthropist is a wealthy or generous person who helps society through charity.

Examples

The philanthropist donated money to schools and hospitals.

Difference between Egoist and Egotist

Egoist → mainly concerned with self-interest.

Egotist → constantly talks proudly about oneself.

12. Ambivert

An ambivert is a person who has qualities of both an introvert and an extrovert.

Examples

She is an ambivert who enjoys parties but also likes being alone.

Most people are ambiverts to some extent.

13. Misanthrope

A misanthrope is a person who dislikes or distrusts people in general.

Examples

The old man became a misanthrope after many bad experiences.

The misanthrope avoided social gatherings.

14. Misogynist

A misogynist is a person who dislikes or shows prejudice against women.

Examples

The misogynist believed women should not hold leadership positions.

15. Misogamist

16. Feminist

17. Ascetic

18. Atheist

An atheist is a person who does not believe in God or gods.
